I began painting still life subjects when a model cancelled a life painting session. I have learned to love the beauty of such simple things as a few pieces of fruit adorned with silk or satin.
I enjoy the control that still life offers. By arranging, rearranging and adjusting the fruit, fabric and light, I can work out my design just the way I want. Then I am free to play with colour, tone and brush strokes. I hope to offer the viewer a glimpse of the great beauty that surrounds us in the everyday.
Still Life – Small
I began painting small still life subjects to explore the simple beauty of everyday objects. The small format lets me try many different things in less time than a larger painting while keeping the paintings fresh and fun. I want to paint only what is necessary to convey what excites me.
